Physicist buys Mesquite 3BD for $434K

Dr. Walther N. Spjeldvik and his wife, Karen, bought a three-bedroom, two bath at 912 Crest View Drive in Mesquite from Raymond and Anna Melikian for $434,000 on March 25.

The Melikians paid $342,900 for the 2,293 square foot house in July 2003. It's in the Falcon Crest community.

Dr. Spjeldvik is a full-tenured professor in the physics department at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. He has been with WSU since 1985.

Spjeldvik's research interests include space physics and solar system science. He has participated in several U.S. space missions and worked for NASA as a research principal investigator.

The Norwegian native received his degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Bergen (1969). He then went to UCLA for his M.S. and Ph.D.

Home sales in Mesquite dropped 27 percent in 2007 versus sales in 2006. The median sales price also lost $1,000 from the 2006 level of $226,000.
