Slugger Reggie Jackson sells in Enterprise

by James Trotter, published Jan. 5, 2009

Major League Baseball Hall of Fame slugger Reggie Jackson and Elissa Barry-Schieding sold their three-bedroom, 3.5-bath home at 11751 Woodbrook Court in Enterprise to Christopher Nordling and Jessica Huennekens for $1.1 million on Oct. 30.

Jackson paid $1,004,643 for the property in Feb. 2003. The 3,374-square-foot home, which was built in 2002, was listed as high as $1.3 million. It's in the Resort Villas at Southern Highlands.

Jackson, 62, is widely recognized as one of the greatest hitters in Major League Baseball history, and was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1993. After playing for five different teams from 1967-87, he retired as a five-time World Series champion, a 14-time All-Star and one of the greatest postseason sluggers in modern history. Nicknamed "Mr. October," Jackson won three titles with the Oakland Athletics in the early 1970's and two more with the New York Yankees later that decade.

Jackson played for eight years in Oakland, leading the A's to three straight World Series crowns from 1972-74. He played briefly for the Baltimore Orioles before signing a much-publicized contract with the New York Yankees in 1976, where he won titles in 1977 and 1978. His signature moment came in Game 6 of the 1977 World Series against the Los Dodgers, when he joined former Yankee slugger Babe Ruth as the only players history to hit three home runs in one World Series game.

Jackson eventually spent four years with the California Angels in the mid-1980s before retiring with the Oakland A's after the 1987 season. He retired with 563 home runs and a .262 career batting average, along with 1,702 RBI.

He also made a memorable turn as himself in the 1988 comedy The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, and made cameo appearances on shows such as "Diff'rent Strokes," "Malcolm in the Middle," "MacGyver" and "The Love Boat." He graduated from Arizona State.

There have been 8,305 home sales in Enterprise in 2008, with a median sales price of $225,000.
