N.Y. music teacher buys in Spring Valley

Raphael Torn and Jodi Reiter bought a four-bedroom, 2.5-bath at 6710 Coley Ave. in Spring Valley from Sharon A. Fann for $399,000 on May 6.

Fann paid $335,000 for the property in Aug. 2002.

The 3,043-square-foot home was built in 1988. It's in the neighborhood of North of Flamingo.

Torn is a New York-based percussionist and music teacher. He currently teaches at PS 145 in Brooklyn. In 2003, he self-produced a CD in Cuba, where he composed, produced and featured blends of New York jazz and Afro-Cuban folklore.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from New York University.

There were 7,351 sales in Spring Valley in 2008, with a median price of $175,000.
