Samuel D. Schmidt and his wife, Sheila, have listed for sale a four bedroom, four-bath home at 2202 Chatsworth Court in Henderson for $1,574,900.
The Schmidts bought the property for $808,000 in June 1996. The 6,510-square-foot house, which was built in 1992, is in the Greater Green Valley neighborhood. Eric Gorton of Merit Realty is the listing agent.
Mr. Schmidt is a former Indy Racing League driver and the founder of Sam Schmidt Motorsports, a professional auto racing team which won the 2004 Infiniti Pro Series Championship. He got his professional start in 1992 and went on to break through to the Indy Racing League in 1997.
His career ended in 2000 when he suffered a crash during an event in Orlando. The result of his spinal injuries suffered in the crash left him as a quadriplegic, but he currently runs the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation out of Princeton, N.J. His work with the foundation has garnered him a Visionary Leadership Award from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation and the Humanitarian Award from the Las Vegas Walk of Stars Foundation.
He received his bachelor’s in business administration Seaver College and his M.B.A. in international finance from Pepperdine University. He is originally from Lincoln, Neb.
There were 9,065 home sales in Henderson in 2008, with median sales price of $224,900.
