Controversial owner and publisher of the Las Vegas Sun owned this house

by BlockShopper Historian published April 16, 2010

Las Vegas Sun owner and publisher, Herman Greenspun, owned this house in 1967. He bought the newspaper in 1949 and was editor and publisher until his death in 1989. Habitually controversial, Greenspun, directed his wrath at varying subjects in his regular front-page column, "Where I Stand." Senator (Wisc.), Joseph McCarthy, and the Internal Revenue Service were frequently targeted in the column. Greenspun was convicted of federal gun running charges after being recruited by the Jewish group, Haganah, to smuggle guns for those struggling to establish the State of Israel. He lost a bid for the 1962 Republican gubernatorial nomination.
